Clickertraining: The 4 Secrets of Becoming a Supertrainer, better known as Canis Clicker Training, is the dog clicker training e-guide authored by Norwegian duo Morten Egtvedt and Cecilie Koste, who set up the Canis Clickertraining Academy. I heard about this compilation from a friend who claimed to have used it to transform her restless Dalmatian Minka into a canine role model for good behavior. I have to admit I wasn’t too keen on hearing the laurels about this e-book, given that I have unfortunately come across a lot of tripe (pardon my French) when it comes to dog training manuals.

Nevertheless, my interest was piqued when I discovered that Egtvedt is an established biologist and animal trainer for the Norwegian army and his wife Cecilie has worked extensively with show dogs and horses. Both have had over 20 years of experience in the animal training arena. Well, that’s a good start. It’s not every day that you come across actual animal/dog trainers penning such books- after all, the internet is replete with armchair animal trainers and psychologists who, I strongly suspect, have little or no knowledge whatsoever about canine behavior.

Their website http://www.canisclickertraining.com/ isn’t much to go by, but since I’m not big on eye candy and would rather put my money on substance over style, I decided to give Canis Clicker Training a go.

Here’s what I found:

What’s Inside

I’ll get to the basics first: Canis Clicker Training is a 200 page training resource that consists of Morten Egtvedt and Cecilie Koste’s expert advice and the background, application, and principles of clicker training methods. The package includes the main book Clickertraining: The 4 Secrets of Becoming a Supertrainer, as well as 5 detailed ‘bonus’ videos. This is all you really need to start clicker training your pooch, apart from purchasing a good clicker from a pet store- either in your area or online.

Ok, so lets jump right into it. The Canis Clicker Training book itself was a pleasant surprise, and I found it to be a delightful read since it is easy to comprehend even for someone with very basic language skills. The information is well-structured and provided through easy step-by-step instructions. The material can be broken down into two main areas which are:

-  First, the basic manual. This includes sections on what clicker training is and the scientific principles of this method;

-  Second, the ‘other component’ of Canis Clicker Training which discusses:

  • The 7 different ways in which you can train your dog
  • How to motivate your pet the right way and reinforce commands
  • Introducing your dog to the clicker, or ‘charging the clicker’
  • The different ways in which clicker training sessions can be conducted
  • How it is possible to clicker train a dog that has been previously trained using other methods
  • The most common mistakes trainers make
  • How to use the clicker for target training and back chaining

In addition to this wealth of information, Canis Clicker Training also chalks out 30 different and well-organized training plans for just as many behavior training techniques.

Add-ons and Bonuses

As mentioned earlier, Canis Clicker Training also includes a set of 5 bonus videos that are of great help since they complement the information by way of audio-visual instructions and examples. Here’s what each video focuses on:

-    Teaching your dog to retrieve objects

-    Teaching your dog to fetch your mail

-    Teaching your dog how to heel (for a pup)

-    Teaching your pooch to get a soda from the refrigerator

-    Teaching your pet to get snug under a blanket!

The videos were great fun to watch, and I was literally itching to teach my dog how to fetch my soda from the fridge. However, I realized the clever one would probably use his newfound ability to get grub for himself; if a dog can get a soda from the fridge, I’m guessing it can get his paws (and jaws) on a lot of other things too. That said, I don’t think it should be a big deal if your canine is well-trained- which it will be after you lay your hands on Canis Clicker Training.

What’s even better is that Canis Clicker Training comes with a 56 day, 100% money back guarantee, which serves as a stamp of its credibility and success rate. Given that many people seem to love this guide, I don’t think dissatisfaction would be a big issue here.

When you purchase Canis Clicker Training, you also get a password in order to gain access to the site and set your own training schedule for your pet. If you have any queries, you can use the contact form on the site to post your problems and questions and get a speedy reply/solution.

My Verdict

After going through Canis Clicker Training and even successfully implementing many of its techniques in my own doggy training schedule, I truly believe this guide is a must for all those who want to encourage good behavior in their dogs through positive reinforcement. It’s a fact that reward-based training works wonders for dogs, and this method will even enhance your skills as a trainer.

I’ve heard that Canis Clicker Training has also been used to train seeing-eye dogs that assist the blind, and that in itself is a testament to the success of this pack. What I liked most was how the information given could also be used on dogs that have been trained using other techniques, which I am sure many dog owners will take to instantly.

If you were looking to hire a professional dog trainer for your pooch, scrap your plans. Canis Clicker Training is all you need.
